These gates rusted, fences busted from broncos and bucking bulls
Grand stands are empty now,
You wonder what they looked like when they were full
Small town rodeo ground, where small town heros go,
To play a role in the local wild west show.
I can smell the boots and chaps,
Hear the hoots and claps,
Of the crowd on Saturday night
Horses kick up dust, and the cowboys lust,
For the snuff queens out in the denim light.
["nelp"?] on their saddles, to sell their soul, for a chance to play in the local wild west show.
What would Bill Cody say?
Told him he had the best damn show in town.
Took all the Indians, cowboys, and buffalo,
And he put 'em all in the world's best wild west show
Up on the billboards, and the magazines,
The west lives on, but now its only make believe
And the Marlboro man, he's the only one who really knows,
How bad we need another wild west show.
There's a stand in the middle of this rodeo arena,
And I wonder where is the man,
Who'll take this show and put it on the road
And lead us all to the promised land,
Where cowboys and indians stand together with the buffalo
We all play a part in the big wild west show
Some come on Bill Cody if you can hear me,
Show me how the west was really won
Because none of the Indians, Cowboys, and Buffalo,
Know the first damn thing about a wild west show
And only the Marlboro man really knows,
How bad we need another wild west show>
