Dave: One of the main things in common is just a "punk" thing, you know

Kurt: We're white-boy, guitar-oriented rock

Reporter: How would you define the music of Nirvana?

Krist: (starts drumming on table)

Kurt: How have we defined our music. Umm, I dunno... Rock'n'roll, punk rock—music

Krist: Hard rock. Hard pop rock. Hard pop rocks popping on your tongue; crickling and crackling

Kurt: The word that comes up in every definition that I've read has been "freedom." So, we-we kinda like to think of our music as musical freedom. Not being tied to a specific genre or a specific sound
