One question that popped up yesterday was pretty interesting:

is it up to you to decide which clues everyone should igonre and which to take into consideration? Lets do it this way then. The live near I95 right? how about when the camera pans up to show the earth, it looks like somewhere in the Illinois area. these are an example of conflicting clues, pointing to the fact that there is no one place they live. they live in "america town" USA.
I've often wondered what state they live in. I've put clues together over the years and have come up with a couple different places of my own. I think the novelty of the Simpsons is not really knowing for sure.
It's pretty much up to sensible judgement, which most people possess. They are not really talking about a town in regards to pot bellied sparrow being the towns bird, and they're unlikely to be that close on the artistic detail as to pan the camera out from the correct state.
In one Hallowe'en episode (the one about the mad advertising logos run amok in Springfield) there is a Paul Anka song referring to a guarantee. Lisa comes on at the end and says "Guarantee Void in Tennessee" which would imply that Springfield is in Tenessee as they would not need to heed the guarantee for residents.
Of course, all of the hallowe'en episodes are pretty much useless for this type of in depth review :)
they insult the south all the time so they cant live in tennese
what about the episode where there trying to get sugar back? Mr Burns: We're going south of the border! Homer: To Tennesee?
could it ever be Colorado? near mountains, plains, oil and desert. Springfield Colorado is in southeastern CO. if anyone can disprove me please do so. I would love to think that springfield is in my home state of CT but I truly dont thing there is a springfield connecticut. possibly springfield MA because when the simpsons go to japan homer doesnt want to eat at the table shaped like the state where he lives. complaining about taxes possibly. im not sure hope some of those could help
its got to be new hampshire, now granted ther is no shelbyville next to the springfield but there is one east of cleveland ohio which is not all that far plus NH is definately within driving distance to NY. plus in the episode where mr burns gets trapped under the old man of the mountain rubble, well look at the NH state quarter there is an old man of the mountain. also on google maps you can clearly see that there is a lake right near by and the ocean not to far and a mountain range right next door. check and mate.
i think its illonouis cuz theres a shelbeyvill by a spring fild plus if u look at the weather paters illonouis has all the types of weather patters the episodes have and it has a power plant and its by the ocean
ummm, overlooking the spelling errors... Illinois is NOT by the ocean, in fact it is nowhere NEAR an ocean...
Matt Groening has said they live in springfield because its the most common city name in the country...there is no right answer
nick is a faggot
ive narrowed it down to two states, either kentucky or oregan...
so you figure it out
i would love to find out which state they actually live in. but even though i ponder about it, i try to keep away from that thought. i say we just continue watching each new episode and sooner or later the creators of the show will reveal which state they reside in.
but from my belief, i believe they live in either MO or OH
I don't think they'll ever give it away. Maybe when the show runs out of steam in another 20 years or so.
if you look at pictures of the ohio nuke power plant, you will notice double cooling towers which i think is rare. most one i ve seen have only one.
the first time i saw a cooling tower was on the victoria river in oregon but i cant remember if there was 2 of them. also, maybe trying to match thing in the show like bildings and stuff with the real things might be the way to go. like--Birthplace of Norman Vincent Peale-- wich was born in ohio
i am new at this but i think this is realy fun
actually Outside of Detroit, dearborne has double cooling towers as well, i've also seen them in CT, and i'm in mass
they live in good ol georiga my friend yeeeeeeeeeeeehhhawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok i just started this today but i have it ...i know where they live.....it is SPRINGFIELD ILLONOIS...and let me tell you why! because there is a SHELBYVILLE like 40 miles away. and a NUCLEUR PLANT! they perform the DEATH PENALTY....there next to A LARGE BODY OF WATER (AKA) THE GREAT LAKES and branson colorado is 1000 MILES AWAY and in one of the episodes where bart gives mr burns his blood he recives a letter from him stamped SPRINGFIELD,IL so there you have it and as for all the other hints i beleave that most are nothing more but ment to confuse us ....wich is why we all loveeeeeeeeeee the simpsons
They go to Branson, MISSOURI, which is 1000 miles away from their Springfield. Not Branson, Colorado.
go to google earth and type in Springfield Illonois the place looks right to me.
i think they live in ohio! the episode where she is giving her address was a joke because you think she says "springfield, oh hiya maude" when it can also be taken as "springfield, ohio, maude" (as in marge just notices maude has just come in) other wise it was very pointless to include that scene because it has no relevance to anything and is never concluded!
cant be 100% sure too but i thought also when homer orders the power plant equipment to ship bart secretly back to springfield i think i saw ohio on the address on the box!
plus i dont think you can truly rely on using the cartoon landscape as a reference for where springfield is because i think alot of the time they adapt the city to fit the story like some episodes they have as good as put moes on the end of evergreen terrace and others they havent and homer has driven there!
I've taken this from a different point of view than most of the posts I've read. Since Springfield is thrown at us and they're toying with us about the state, their intention is never to own up to a real state. My way to deal with this is through process of elimination. There are many states where it CAN'T be. First of all, it can't be Florida becasue they're banned from there. They make reference to there being only two states where they're not banned in some episode, too. As for Ohio and Missouri, there are snow capped mountains on the horizon in more than one episode and last time I went to those two states, there weren't any. Also, they have a hurricane in one episode. Ever heard of a hurricane in Ohio before? Also, at one point, he gets in his car and travels 1800 ish miles to Florida (according to the road sign) so that pretty much eliminates Orgon, Washington, California, etc. Using proccess of elimination, they do have to live in the fictional state of North Takoma, becuse eventually, you have to eliminate all the real states.
actually the south east corner of oregon to the north west corner of florida is 1798.4 miles
I will be honest, the Simpsons clearly live in Illinois, I know this because I lived in Illinois, and in Springfield, there is a power plant there and yes, arcades are a big thing there, even the Simpson's accent is Illinois, Look up pictures of Springfield, Ill...you will notice it is very similar to the cartoon city of Springfield. In one episode...if you look in the background, while Homer is traveling, a sign says, "Welcome to Illinois". The Simpsons are such a typical Illinois family as well.
Watch "drawn together" "a tale of two cows", I think its season 2 episode 10 - theres a cross-feed during a news show to Springfeild CT outside a destroyed Simpsons house - all done in typical simpsons style drawing. Very quickly done and quite interesting to note how they name the state - perhaps the writers etc knew? or another random throw off.....
The Simpsons do not have a New England Accent, so no It is not CT, Mass, NY, or anywhere in th' northeast. It is clearly Springfield, IL...If you look at a map of Springfield, IL and compare it to the Springfield, Simpsons...there is a similarity...The power plant in Springfield, Mass does not look like the one on the Simpsons, however the one in Springfield, IL does.
Geeze, I have to much time on my hands. More references I have found about where the Simpsons live, Springfield, IL has a Capital Airport (Capital city) generic name, an intro I saw pulling away from the earth puts them in Illinois, Shelbyville is 40 miles away, and there ia a lake near the power plants, and I heard an old rap from Bart in the early 90's say " I'm from Sringfield, Illinois, USA" and an episode I saw...Bart had a letter stamped Illinois...there ya have it, the (Capital) of Illinois is Springfield, and when you say to someone randomly..."where are the simpsons from?" they say back Springfield hmmm...that's in Illinois...there ya have it.
Wow! If we could only see some proof. For example, any idea which episode it is when you say one can see a sign where it says "Welcome to Illinois" like you mentioned a few comments ago?
Good work man!
The episode I remember some parts, it was when a trillion or million dollars was stolen, Mr. Burns had put it away in the plant somewhere...all I remember, it was when I lived in Illinois, and I noticed a sign, you may have to pause it and look, it was dark, I remember that. But, anyone who lives or has lived in Springfield, Illinois can tell ya the Simpsons actual "Springfield" was based on that city, though it evolved over the years to many other settings, but in all it is IL. Another episode is a letter in Bart's hand, and it says IL, I noticed that. I lived in Springfield for two years, and I can see the IL family in the Simpsons...another actual place maybe "Salt Lake City, Utah...if ya look at that map it has so many Simpson values to it, like Ghomer St., Barton, five points, Capitol Avenue...but as I rule out Illinois.
Billy, I agree . I live in Chicago, have been to Springfield. it does look like the home of the Simpsons. yes and there is a capital airport north Springfield, there is a power plant near Springfield Lake and downtown looks almost exact as Springfield on the simpsons, also in Springfield, IL is the Lincoln thingy statue. so i agree Illinois i think.
unusual, but another place may actually be a small townsomewhere in mass. I noticed the simpsons have a blend of states, IL, Mass, Oregon, CO, and even Florida
HAS ANYONE THOUGHT OF SPRINGFEILD, PA ?
Another place that really matches other than ILLinois is Virginia, I mapped it...looks like it as well.
hmmm..I remember that Shelbyville has a lemon tree...can't be too far north.
Melonie, true, but I think inspite of the trees n all that like scenery n trees, I think maybe some things are to throw ppl off. Illinois isn't what ya would call "north", it is Midwest. I watched an episode that had Capitol City, again, it looked like Chicago in that one...Groening had to base the cartoon somewhere in his mind, or had a place in mind, so there is a state.
nah they live in Springfield, Mass or Illinois it's one of those 'nuff said.
Well, Where to start? Matt grew up in Springfield OR until moving to Portland where he finished high school. In the medical marijuana episode, the doctor prescribes homer some. Homer asks if it is legal and the dr. chuckles and says in this state yes. OREGON? The episode where homer and Mr. Burns team up and cheat to get to the top of the mountain. In that episode as they first drive up and show the mountain it is Mt. Hood, to prove it matt has drawn in illumination rock witch is a prevalent bulge of a rock formation to the northwest of Timberline lodge. Remember when homer runs over the birthplace of Matt Groening when he dropped Bart off in Oregon at a tough love camp? The episode where homer is in the Lewis and Clark expedition, when they finally arrive in Oregon he slams a flag into the ground and says I hear bye call this place Eugene Oregon. Lewis and Clark never even went to where present day Eugene is, they spent the winter of 1804 05 100 miles north where Astoria is. Rumor has it that every character is based on someone matt knows from his childhood in Springfield. Also, the statue of the founder of Springfield has a striking resemblance to a statue on the U of O campus in Eugene!!!!!!!I am sure there is many more clues as there are many more to mislead us to believe there not in Oregon!!! As any educated one of us would say, there from Oregon, not to would be bassfamy. I love all you Simpson fans even the misled ones who believe they live somewhere else. Tumbleweed
It is Oregon, regardless if I think they all have new england/new jersey/NY accents. Matt has said so himself. But my question is? Do Oregonians (if that is correct) have accents like the north east?
The simpsons are along the east coast. The simpsons live not to far from new york. In season 8 principal skinner has the students collect what they recycled and put in a bag so they could make money to go to Albany. Obliviosly they're talking about Albany, NewYork. Where else? Then in another season where Bart takes a rafting trip they get go the wrong way and get lost out in the ocean. Homer then pulls out a map that shows all of the Krusty Burger locations. One of the locations is off of Massachuetts. Massachuetts has a Springfield in it and it one the main cities in Massachuetts. Springfield, Massachuetts is also near Albany. I checked on google earth to make sure.
What I ment to say is that homer pulls out a map of all of the krusty burger locations and goes to the closest one which is off of the coast of massachuetts. Okay that what i forgot to say.
Well there have been many theories on this and you do have a good point but usually most off the time the theories end up pointing to Oregon not to mention Matt Groening himself said it
Albany,Oregon, just 45 minutes from where matt was born and oh ya Oregon is #1 in recycling, and started the whole 5 cent popcan thing.
functionalaki, In season 17 episode 11, Homer must drive bart ACROSS the country to get to a juvie in oregon because he was on the no fly list, they might live in Connecticuit, but not massacheusetts because in season 28 episode 3 they go to boston and decide to move there when homer says he isnt comfortable to move to A COMPLETELY different state, sorry i am 17 years late, you must all be retired now.
Joe T is a pathetic human being. They're clearly from Japan...
I think they live in North Carolina.
I thought they lived in Northern Kentucky. It was said in an episode. You can't match events with where they live. It is a cartoon. The writers don't have to make it accurate. If they did, the simpsons would be a Situational Comedy.
In episode "Papas got a brand new badge" Home takes over the police department. Fat Tony call in help to kill homer. His thugs travel from New Jersey then arrive in springfield from traveling on interstate 95 which runs into connecticut. (there was 95 sign in the episode as they were driving) Also the sign welcome to springfield show population of around 30,000 and elevation of 1582 which is consistant with CT. Other hints there is a nuclear power plant (work for homer) and sub base (when he joins the navey) both in ct. This is my conclusion.
Springfield is not in conneticut
Yes, i agree In season 17 episode 11, Homer must drive bart ACROSS the country to get to a juvie in oregon because he was on the no fly list, they might live in Connecticuit, but not massacheusetts because in season 28 episode 3 they go to boston and decide to move there when homer says he isnt comfortable to move to A COMPLETELY different state, sorry i am 17 years late, you must all be retired now.
I live in Springfield, Massachusetts and I think it could be Mass, still say Illinois though, it is either Mass or IL.
ok guys here ya go. In the episode a tale of two cities. marge states the town is getting to big and need to split the area code. One half gets the 636 area code, the other 939. 636 is the are code of Missouri.
Well have you ever thought the writers could have added North Takoma into the middle of all these places so that all these clues at leading to each other but not really because there would be a new state thats FICTIONAL and your all just wasting time trying to figure out where it is.
in the Episoid when they go to Brazil Lisa says that the state they live in is a mystery but if you add up the clues you can figure it out.
In the episode where Homer fakes his own death, the man tells him to check out his mothers grave when he goes down to an office to change the death notice. The grave is that of Walt Whitman... Whitman was buried in New Jersey. There is a little town not far from Whitman's gravesite called Springfield.
Just thought I would add that to the discussion.
here you go....In "Revenge is a dish best served 3 times" homer is trying to drive down the texan who shoots his gun all the time. At the very end instead of taking revenge they are sitting on the car. when bart asked if he still wants revenge homer states "No I found out we are both from connecticut." Homer flat out said he was from Connecticut. Check it out......
that episode was a spin-off, not-really-canon kinda episode.
YES, I REMEMBER THAT EPISODE!, the one where they give the story about the count of monte carlo, and i also think they are from connecticuit because In season 17 episode 11, Homer must drive bart ACROSS the country to get to a juvie in oregon because he was on the no fly list, they might live in Connecticuit, but not massacheusetts because in season 28 episode 3 they go to boston and decide to move there when homer says he isnt comfortable to move to A COMPLETELY different state, sorry i am 17 years late, you must all be retired now. But since they said they are both for connecticuit, it would be weird to say that if they are in connecticuit, but it needs to be a nine dollar (31 today) bus ride to nyc and close to albany, so maybe virginia, in 2023 we are watching this on disney plus.
Again, I live in Springfield, Ma and connecticut is just on the border, the Springfield the Simpsons live in doesn't resemble here that much at all. Springfield, IL is where they are.
ya thats where he says their from that doesnt mean thats where their from
The Simpsons live in the State of WHATEVA! :D
Whateva state they live in (North Takoma maybe?), it must be in a different Universe where humans evolved to have only 4 digits on each hand instead of 5. In this Universe, state names and Interstates may not necessarily correlate to the ones we know.
Plus, their universe is only 2d instead of 3d. Homer falls thru the Wormhole into our 3d Universe in that Halloween episode.
the simpsons live in texas bacause in northern texas there is a power plant it also snows and theres two towns on the side of each other called springfield and shelbyville matt groening is messing with your minds. think about it. you wouldnt really expect for the simpsons to live in the southern part of the united states. but its true. go to simpsons facts.com if you dont believe me.
no in the ninth season in "Bart Star" hank hill is briefly seen and he says "We drove 2000 miles for this?"
so Springfield has to be about 2000 miles from Arlen, Texas
and i dont know why some are people saying it says Springfield, IL on the letter in the one where bart gives blood. the state abbreviation is illegible(it looks like a backwords c then a t)
i took a very clear screenshot i will email it to anyone if they want
i hope this helps
No it cant be Texas because in the episode ""The curse of the flying Hellfish" Milhouse's grandpa said that he and his wife won a chile cook off in Boemont, Texas. And all the kids were in aww.
You are all wrong. Simpsons director Matt Groening set them in Springfield due to the common name for U.S cities. Also former Simpsons director David Silverman once said the show was set in the fictional state of North Takoma. Groening also stated that he likes to toy around with the clues to throw people off track.
They dont actually live in a specifi state. Look on wikipedia, the writers just make up where they live to fit the story lines. Their actually geographical location changes every episode.
Again, it is either Springfield, MA or Springfield, IL. Funny thing though, when ya ask someone who doesn't watch the Simpsons. "Where are the Simpsons from?" They automatically say uhhm Springfield, that is in Illinois. The Springfield in IL does resemble the one on the Simpsons. If you have Google Earth, look at the city in IL, compare it to the map of Springfield, where the Simpsons live, it resembles.
you guys its obvious they live in every state or not a state at all...some episodes they are near a beach.sometimes they arent.it all depends were you want and think they should be.
Omg that is so deep I never thought of it that way! :)
it is in Henderson, Nevada, where they live
i think it UTAH
it cant be utah cuz in the episode where homer gets cable bart watches an adult program where they say it is showing in every state except for florida and utah
the movie comes out in july, i saw the previews...whatever state it is it borders maine, ohio, kentucky, and didn't catch the other state...?? i'm lost now..no idea
THEY LIVE IN ILLINOIS...I LIVE 6 HOURS FROM SPRINGFIELD, AND WE HAVE SHELBYVILLE RIGHT NEXT TO IT....SUCK THAT U SUCKERS
I LIVE IN SPRINGFIELD, MASS AND NO SHELBYVILLE...BUT WE DO HAVE KRUSTY BURGERS!
well in the newest trailer for the upcoming movie Mr.Flanders states: "look at the four states that border springfield Ohio, Nevada, Maine and Kentucky" now, i dont know if that was a joke but I'm just waaaaayyyyyy to lazy to look it up.
in the episode liza goes to washingnton , it shows a map that fades out behind lisa as she reads an essay. if you pause the dvd player just right you can see that the spimpsons live in Springfeild , NT, or the fictional state known as Northern Takoma. It also shows that Springfield borders on four states, just some clues.
If you watch the episode in season 7 titled "bad neighabors" were George Bush Sr. Moves to Springfield lisa states that this was one of the 9 states that george bush claims residency in, so therefore we need to find out the 9 states that George Bush Sr. claims residency in and find all the ones with a "springfield"
i'm really sorry because i don't normally like to insult people because everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but, this is the stupidest thing i have ever seen! Come on! Your all squabbling over the whereabouts of a place that doesn't exist. they chose springfield because its the most common city name in the country(probably). When you add up all the clues, you get nowhere. All of you are buffet debaters. You pick and choose the clues that you want to use, and ignore the ones that don't support your theories. the Simpsons is a CARTOON! It is not real. Neither is springfield. If you'll just look at the episode with ardie ziff, where homer goes into west springfield, you should remeber when Lisa remarked "West Springfield is twice the size of Texas!" Lisa doesn't exaggerate. So, in all your infinite wisdom, tell me, where is their a springfield twice the size of texas, NOWHERE!
Simpson come from Illinois today i watched an episode when Homer is elected has sanitary city manager or whatever and at the end to get money he says we taking the garbage of the cities around and there is a garbage truck with Chicago written on. Also it can be a south city because they have lot of snow in springfield during xmas
also, the Simpsons drive to Vermont and New York, not far from Springfield, MA
peace
Ok, I believe that the Simpsons definitely live in Springfield, Massachusetts. First of all, the Simpsons couldn't be from Springfield, IL because it is the capital of that state and the Simpsons visit Capitol City where they live. Also, there is no Springfield, Connecticut, so the next closest bet would be neighboring MA. Here are some more reasons why the Simpsons live in MA.
-Mayor Quimby has a Boston accent, and is the spitting image of MA senator Ted Kennedy.
-More on that note, when on "The Tonight Show" Dan Castellaneta made a reference to some unnamed MA politician when voicing Mayor Quimby.
-In one episode it talks about the Springfield Armory, also in Springfield, MA
-There is a Springfield University where the Simpsons live, maybe a reference to Springfield College
-The Simpsons' Springfield was settled in 1796, before the Westward expansion, eliminating any possibility of it being west of the Mississippi River/Appalachian Mts.
-There are snow covered mountains in Springfield, MA- MT. Tom
-In one episode, Bart gets a credit card, gives Krusty a check in hopes of him signing it, gets the check back with a stamp on it, brings it to the bank(and so on) it shows the current time in many locations, including Washington & the Cayman Islands, all of which are 2:00ish, so they are on the East Coast!
***ONE OF THE SHOW'S PRODUCERS, MIKE SCULLY, IS FROM WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA yet another connection
-Since Springfield is HAS to be on the East coast, MA has is cold/snowy in the winter and can get brutally hot in the winter, demonstrated in many episodes
-the Simpsons drive to New York City and Vermont in some episodes, not to far from MA.
-when Moe brings the bar people to Nevada, he gets a special bus, maybe because it is so far away.
I am sure there are many more ways to prove that this is Springfield, MA but I have written so much I HAVE to stop now. Feel free to reply to this and give me your feedback!
FIRST OF ALL I LIVE IN SPRINGFIELD, MA...I AGREE WITH YOU BECAUSE...YES THERE IS AN ARMORY, AND A POWER PLANT, IT IS COLD HERE, WE HAVE MNT'S ALL OVER THE PLACE, THERE IS A WEST SPRINGFIELD, SHELBYVILLE CAN BE CONSIDERED PALMER, THE BRADLEY AIRPORT IN HARTFORD RESEMBLES THE ONE ON THE SIMPSONS REMARKEBLY, BOSTON IS THE CAPITOL, BUT CAPITOL CITY..HMM, NO IDEA?? MAYBE BOSTON, YALE IS IN CT, WHICH LISA TALKS ABOUT ALL THE TIME, THE DOWNTOWN AREA HERE LOOKS SIMILIAR TO THAT SPRINGFIELD, WHICH THE SIMPSONS LIVE, SO YEAH..I THINK MASSACHUSETTS.
but in one episode there in adesert called the springfeild badlands
i can't believe no one said anything about the Springfield radio station KBBL... all radio stations with call letters starting with a "K" are west of the Mississippi River, East of the Mississippi radio station call letters start with "W". Oregon seems suitable enough....
vincent price is from missouri and hes commonly reffered to in the simpsons and in one episode i cant remember which one but in the city of springfield they run by a river and there is an old missouri boat going through the river and also there is a springfield that borders shelbyville
I THINK SPRINGFIELD IS A BLEND OF PLACES, FIRST OF ALL IN ONE EPISODE, YOU SEE PALM TREES IN SHELBYVILLE, BUT SNOW IN SPRINGFIELD????
I NOTICED THE CITY IS VERY SMALL, SO IT COULD EVEN BE A SMALL TOWN, PROBABLY BASED SOMEWHERE NEVER GUESSED.
I AM BEGINNING TO THINK CANADA OR SOMEWHERE IN NEW ENGLAND.
You know that the simpsons cant live in New york because there is one episode where they go to new york. The other episode where bart is a boyscout, they went in the ocean with flanders and got stranded. They had a Krusty the clown map and it showed a resturant by the east coast where they were stranedid. So you know that they live on the east coast so I would guess Virginia.
http://spikedhumor.com/articles/93817/The_Simpsons_Intro.html
check out where it zooms out.
illinois
i can't believe i just read every %^(*$%(^ one of these posts! i'm such a loser
one of the reasons I think the Simpsons live in Missouri or Illinois is When Areosmith plays at Meo's(i think) Steven says Hello Saint Louis, and Joe says um Steven Its Springfield, and Steven says oh right. And yeah in 1 show they were going to take a day trip to Branson Missouri W/ grandpa.
I am positive they are from conneticut because inthe episode where homer wants to take revenge and each marge, lisa and bart share a story about revenge, at the end they say, "we have something in common: we are both from connecticut."
If you look on the intro where it zooms out on the map, there is a lake connecting to a river, which may be the water used in the show
I didn't feel like reading through all of your comments so forgive me if someone already posted this. But the Simpsons live in Springfield Michigan. Note the intro where the familys sitting on the couch and the camera pans out into space, the solar system, aliens...etc, then to dna strands and everything is within homers head. watch it in slow motion...when you frame it out you can clearly see the outline of lake Huron (which they colored green so it wouldnt be as obvious). Go to google earth or maps and type in Springfield Michigan. its in the exact location. The lake and river which are represented in the opening credits(the curved L-shape) is also on the satellite image. There's also a Shelbyville michigan directly west of Springfield. I'm not sure if there is a nuclear power plant there...but that could be explained by the writers determining where the characters lived after season 1. Case closed
Heres the intro I'm talking about. The best way to see it is dowloading google earth.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNV9FEKi9FQ&mode=related&search=
I say they live in Virginia based on the clues.
The Simpsons live in an interdimensional rift, in an alternate universe where all Springfields come together in space and time.
Must be it
Ok Illinois sounds good to me....but i have always thought it would be Massachusetts, just a couple of reasons....I-95, and look at the mayor come on now you can sooo tell he is a Kennedy... and where are they from? MASSACHUSETTS.....
there is an I-95 near portland ORegon Dumshit, the simpsons are from oregon
Today's brand new episode - "stop. or My Dog Will Shoot!" they go into a corn maze and get lost. HOmer starts throwing Lisa in the air to figure out where the exit is and on one of the throws she sees the Seattle Space Needle. Washington State?
LOL ACTUALLY ALL THE CLUES ARE ADDING UP TO MASSACHUSETTS QUICKLY
It was the E true hollywood story episode they said they were a small kentucky family the one were part goes round payin pepole to kiss
Did anyone see a couple of weeks ago after House there was like a 10 second com. and it showed the Simpsons house and what looked like Lat and Long. lines?
If you watch beginning clip where the camera zooms out of the united states from the Simpson's house you can clearly see it's either Illinois or Ohio. Of course it can't be Illinois because Springfeild Illinois is the capital city and the Springfeild in the Simpsons isn't the capital city. Ohio is where the Simpsons live. In one of episodes Marge is on the phone and the person on the other line asks what state they live in, before Marge says the state Mod walks in and Marge says "Oh'hi'ya Mod" clearly saying "Ohio" as a hint.
Actually because I think the Simpsons try to confuse you with fake clues I think it's between Massachusetts, Michigan and Ohio. I think we can agree it's not Illinois because it's not a capital.
Well im not very good at working out any of this since im english, i know most of the names of the u.s states but i couldnt really tell u anything about them, anyway, i found this on wikipedia:
David Silverman, a director for the Simpsons, has claimed that Springfield is in the fictional state of "North Tacoma" (or "North Takoma"). This is substantiated by the state abbreviations NT and TA used within the show. However, this has never been officially confirmed in any canonical episode of The Simpsons or by other Simpsons producers. And on Homer's Driver License the state is NT and the zip code is 49007, which is a Kalamazoo, Michigan
i wonder if the simpsons will ever let it out :)
they cant live in ohio because in the trailor ned says ohio boarders them
The Simpsons says they live in 1 of the 9 states that former President Bush resided in, but I think they live in Oregon or CA because Matt Groening was born in Oregon.
I remember that episode. Lisa said that they lived in one of the 9 states Former Pres. George Bush claims residency in. Anyone know what these might be?
they live in wyoming because i live in wyoming what a wonderful state.
ITS IN FREAKING GEORGIA NOT YOUR STUPID STATE
No one has said far the far east side of Texas , like Galveston , or just by there ,, in Kema. there are signs all over there about realtors being #1 on the east side , ( like Cookie Quan) and Hank Hill came to a game once _ Huh , huh ? and there is always that crazy Texan guy shouting _ YE HAWW and shooting his gunns. Texas has a death penalty ,Beaches, huricanes , and when Homer went into space... "Houston " right there; " we have a problem. When Apu Became very American , he adopted a very thick Texan accent and doned a big cowboy hat. and when homer wore a camera to spy on Apu , another big cowboy hat. HMMMMMmmmmmmm
nuts , its not real
